Interactive TV? I might have to have a go at it!

200912_cookalong

Chef Gordan Ramsay is going to have a live cook along on December 15th, 9pm Eastern. He provides a list of the ingredients you'll need to cook along, and promises that you'll be able to have some great dishes ready at the end of the hour.  Pretty cool.  Except, of course, for the fact that the food will be ready at 10pm Eastern.  I usually eat dinner earlier than that!  ;)  You can check it out on http://www.fox.com/cookalong .

Just finished watching this...

Getting Things Done (GTD) with David Allen

Great stuff on how to get stuff done, and what gets in the way.  Now, I think I may have to get his book!  (If you have an extra copy you need to get rid of, let me know!)  :)

I used to follow everyone on twitter back, because if they were interested in what I said, I should be interested in what they said.  (I admit, I was also spending too much time worrying about a silly "grade" for twitter - my competitive side coming out I suppose.)  And, as I was following so many, I just couldn't keep up with the conversation.  That's when I learned about groups in one of these third party clients.  Sounded sweet.  I could follow everyone back, and still keep up with the important conversations.

Then, I came to a realization.  If I was doing this, and not paying attention to a large percentage of people I was "following", how many were doing the same with my tweets?  In my mind, this was simply a charade at best.  In thinking about the term "following", I was certainly lying to the person.  I wasn't following them at all.  I wasn't even the slightest bit interested in what they had to say.  I didn't want to be a liar.

So, this is when I changed the rules.  My rules.  I went through (took way too long), and checked each person’s profile.  If you live close to me, I follow you.  If you work in a similar field as I, I follow you so as to learn from you.  And, of course, if I know you I follow you.  I rarely block someone from following me.  In fact, the only time I block you, is if your picture would be R-Rated (or worse).

Those are my thoughts, and my new rules.  What are your thoughts?  Do you have a system for following back?  Am I missing an angle so that I should revisit my rules?

Looking for a great idea.

So, our daughter is turning 8 soon.  And, we need some good ideas for a birthday party.  Well, we really need one great idea.  We've done bowling parties.  We've had parties at home (nightmare).  So, we're looking for an awesome person to tell us what they did that the kids loved, and the parents enjoyed, as well.

On a side note, can I just say that while we do it, I despise the idea that every kid at the party gets a goody bag so that they don't "feel bad" about it not being their birthday.  What's that all about?  I'd like to find out who started this absurd tradition.  We never did this when I was a kid, and we all turned out pretty darn good - if I do say so myself.  Everyone has a birthday, and on that day it is THEIR special day.  That may not be today, or tomorrow, but rest assured, you'll get one once a year.

I feel better now that I've got that off of my chest.  So, fire your ideas at us!  Thanks!!!
